In third grade students have to learn about renewable and non-renewable resources. During this unit, we learn about fossil fuels, their location on our earth and their uses. On the day that we study fossil fuels, I give each child an oatmeal raisin cookie and a paper clip. I have them dig (mine) the cookie for coal deposits (raisins), and then we compare and graph how many coal deposits the class as a whole found.
