
Our class enjoyed studying about simple machines and getting to construct a different one each day in class. We also studied the differences in simple and compound machines, and how each has made our lives so much easier. At the end of the unit, we did an experiment to compare the difference in the time it would take to make butter with a simple machine vs. a compound machine. The students made butter by taking turns shaking it in a jar to make it thicken. I used the mixer (compound machine) to see which would thicken faster. After the experiment we all enjoyed rolls and butter!
